Text Box: General Guidelines for Transferring
If you are planning to transfer to a four-year college, PLANNING is the key.  No matter what college or university you are considering, you can benefit from careful choices at Grays Harbor College.
· Obtain a current catalog from the college or university you plan to attend and study the admission and transfer requirements.  In addition, note the requirements for admission to the department of your major.
· Visit the campus of your choice and talk with an admissions counselor and your departmental advisor.
· Look for publicity that announces visits by representatives from Washington colleges and universities to the Grays Harbor College campus.
· Learn and follow the deadlines for application for admission, financial aid and campus housing, if needed.
· Make an appointment with your academic advisor and/or counselor regularly to discuss your program and academic progress.
· Your transfer institution’s financial aid office (if desired) must be contacted as well.
Admissions
Each college or university has its own admissions requirements. Remember to get a current copy of the catalog from the college you wish to attend and study it carefully.
Your admission to a college or university is often a two-step process:
1. Admission to the college or university itself.
2. Admission to the department in which you wish to major.
General Admission requirements will typically include the following:
· A minimum number of college credits in order for you to use only college course work as a criteria for admission (30-45 credits). Having fewer credits may mean you must meet requirements for admission directly from high school, such as standardized test scores (SAT, ACT) and high school grades.
· A minimum grade point average.
· A minimum competency level of math and English.
· A laboratory science.
· Possibly a foreign language.
You should note that  college and university policies, requirements, and programs change.  You can use the world wide web to view current catalogs and other policies for most colleges and universities.
