For example, some schools give admission priority to students who have taken classes that will go towards their major.
                 Grays Harbor College is a great place to be for a student who is still deciding what career direction to take.  A good strategy is to take at least one

Text Box:                  Are grades important for transferring? YES!  When college admissions departments review your application for admission, they often look for:
· Grade Point Average
· Grade trends and nature of previous coursework
· Preparation for a major and clearly defined academic goals
· Other factors such as leadership experience, record of overcoming adversity, and awards or achievements
                 Passing your classes may not be enough to get into the college of
Text Box:  your choice.  So reach for the stars and do the extra work to get those “A’s” and “B’s”.  
                 Students with GPA’s  of 2.5 or higher will be assured a comprehensive review to determine admission to the University of Washington, but that minimum does not guarantee admission to the school or your choice of major.  For example, in 2003 all UW transfer students majoring in Anthropology had a GPA above 2.75, and 236 of the 365 business transfer students had a 3.5 GPA or above.
                 Contact the college of your choice in order to determine what GPA you will need to be competitive.

Text Box:                  So, you’ve decided on a major, and now you need to find a school that offers your major.  Here are some resources:
· GHC subscribes to WOIS, a career information system, and it is available on any computer on campus.  You can search for schools in Washington that offer your major.
· Go to www.petersons.com and search for schools in the U.S.
· Ask faculty who teach classes in your major about good schools to consider.
· Stop by the counseling center. 538-4099
