World Class Scholars
Incentive Program

For 7th - 12th graders in all area school districts,
encouraging them to do their best in schools,
plan ahead past graduation and to think GHC!

This year marks the 13th year of the Grays Harbor College Foundation's World Class Scholars program. A promise of scholarship support is offered by the Foundation to every seventh grader in Grays Harbor and Pacific counties who signs a contract with the College and qualifies for World Class Scholars status by the time they graduate from high school.

Although the program was established with 7th graders in 1993, the first graduating class of World Class Scholars only arrived at GHC in Fall 1999. Since then, six more classes have been welcomed to the College and the Foundation has funded qualifying World Class Scholars for their second year at GHC, as well.

The photograph below shows the World Class Scholars who graduated from GHC in the Class of 2004. Most are continuing their educations at four-year colleges and universities.

Graduating World Class Scholars from GHC, 2004

World Class Scholars is bringing the promise of college education to families throughout the two counties comprising the service district of Grays Harbor College. As seventh graders, students are invited to sign a contract committing to several scholastic, leadership and community service goals to be met by the time they receive their high school diplomas. Their school districts and parents commit to mentoring, tutoring and assisting students as they pursue these goals. Grays Harbor College offers the commitment of entrance to college programs for which the student qualifies along with a scholarship award from the GHC Foundation to each World Class Scholar. Currently, WCS scholarship awards provide $1250 annually to entering freshmen at GHC with the promise of a renewed year to WCS who maintain high scholarship during their first year at GHC.

More than 1200 students are participating in this scholarship program!
