John Spellman Library and Media Center

Policies Introduction

There are 4 broad categories of policies and procedures which govern the Library Media Center's operations.

A. Official Board Policies and Admin Procedures, adopted by the Board of Trustees of Grays Harbor College.  These apply to the entire college, and in addition three of them address issues specific to Library Media operations.

  1. Board Operational Policy 308 addresses the overall goals of the library, identifies who may use the library, and explains the need for intellectual freedom for the library and its collections.
  2. Board Administrative Procedure 308.02 details the process to be followed for challenges to materials chosen to be in the library’s collection, or gifts which have been not accepted. (A copy of an actual form to be used is included with Library Collection Development Policy.)
  3. Board Operational Policy 314, and Administrative Procedure 314.01, are the college’s statements on copyright, which the library administers.

B. Library Policies on Circulation, explaining loan terms, use of equipment, overdues, privileges granted to different categories of users, etc.

C. Library Policies on Collection Development, explaining the goals and processes of acquiring materials which comprise the collection of resources.

D. Library Policies on Conduct, explaining the application of the Student Rights and Responsibilities policies to the Library Media center environment.
