Boycott! The Art of Economic Activism
Description:

Join us for opening night of Boycott! The Art of Economic Activism, a traveling poster exhibit of 58 posters highlighting diverse historical boycott movements from the 1950s to the present, on May 13th at Obsidian Café in Olympia. We will be joined by guest speakers from Familias Unidas por la Justicia and our local Olympia Food Co-op.

The exhibit will be on display from May 13th-30th at Obsidian Café in Olympia. All are welcome!

The exhibit features more than twenty boycotts including the Montgomery bus boycott, United Farm Workers' grape and lettuce boycott, divestment from Apartheid in South Africa, the Palestinian call for Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions, and many others!

Activists and solidarity groups have often responded to injustices by implementing boycott and divestment campaigns targeting companies and governments that support and sustain these injustices—these posters have been a primary tool for educating around issues and inspiring people to action. These powerful posters serve as a platform for understanding the effectiveness of boycotts as a nonviolent tactic to end injustice and oppression.

To learn about Familias Unidas por la Justicia visit: http://boycottsakumaberries.com/

Thanks to the American Friends Society Committee (AFSC) and Center for the Study of Political Graphics (CSPG) for making these posters available!

decorative event image The Last Five Years
Description: Jason Robert Brown's Drama Desk winner The Last Five Years has been translated into a handful of languages and was named one of Time Magazine's 10 best shows of 2001. A testament to the show's longevity and spurred by the show's regional popularity, The Last Five Years enjoyed an Off-Broadway revival at Second Stage in 2013. A film adaptation is being released in 2014 starring Anna Kendrick and Jeremy Jordan.

An emotionally powerful and intimate musical about two New Yorkers in their twenties who fall in and out of love over the course of five years. The show’s unconventional structure consists of Cathy, the woman, telling her story backwards while Jamie, the man, tells his story chronologically; the two characters only meet once, at their wedding in the middle of the show.

Staring Vanessa Folk and Kyle Danger Henick with Musical Direction by Alex Eddy.

Tickets can be purchased at:

http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/1415715

Tickets are $15.00. All profit from the show will be donated to the Uncle Craig Fund managed by Grays Harbor College Foundation to support people affected by the landslides in Grays Harbor County.
