A Night at the Drag Show
|
| Description: |
Grays Harbor College’s Gay Straight Alliance presents the third annual “Night at the Drag Show” on Friday, February 8, on the College campus in Aberdeen. The drag show begins at 7 p.m; doors open at 6:30.
Last year, a rowdy, energetic crowd of more than 300 enjoyed the second “Night at the Drag Show” at Grays Harbor College. The show raised $2,000 for scholarships awarded through the Grays Harbor College Foundation.
“When we did the drag show a few years ago we didn’t know what we would get from the community. The amount of people at the past two events was overwhelming,” said Jen Gillies-Alvarez, one of the advisors for the campus club. “The students in the club were so overcome with emotions a few cried when they saw all the faces in the crowd. I hope even more people will come this year, and keep the scholarship going.”
Gillies-Alvarez anticipates more than 20 acts will be performing, featuring lip-synching to dramatic and popular songs by performers dressed in opposite gendered clothing. VIP seating is $15, and general admission is only $5. Tickets are available by calling 360-538-4155, online at Brown Paper Tickets, or through the GHC GSA Facebook page. Tickets will also be available at the door.
The Gay Straight Alliance at Grays Harbor College is dedicated to improving awareness of gay, lesbian, transgendered, and bisexual people to create a safe environment for all Grays Harbor College students. The group provides peer emotional and moral support, as well as promoting and providing safe spaces. The club also participates in a variety of campus and community events throughout the year.
For more information, please call Jen Gillies-Alvarez at 360-538-4155 or email jgillies@ghc.edu.

2013 Mystery Get Away
|
| Description: |
Up, Up and Away! To our $1 million goal!
Join the Grays Harbor College Foundation again this year as we reach for our goal of endowing the World Class Scholars program.
Mark your calendar and join us at the 5th annual Mystery Get Away fundraiser on Thursday, February 21, 2013; all proceeds will go towards World Class Scholars. You might be the winner of a great mystery trip for two! Up, Up and Away! Our previous winners have traveled to Seattle, Las Vegas, San Francisco and San Diego. This year’s 3-night, top-secret trip will be even more exciting!
Since the first World Class Scholars graduated from area high schools and enrolled at GHC in 1999, the Foundation has awarded $790,000 in partial tuition scholarships to more than 700 qualifying students. This vital scholarship program could not be more essential for the success of our young people than it is right now. We need to ensure that our unique scholarship incentive program for young students in this community will continue for years to come. Thus far, we have raised $500,000, halfway to our $1 million endowment.
We know you truly care about the future of the young people who live in our community. Please consider being a sponsor of our Mystery Get Away event. For a donation of $1,000 or more you will receive recognition as a sponsor and 20 tickets (one ticket equals one drawing entry, you must be present to win). At the donor level of $500 or more, you will receive 10 tickets. Single tickets may be purchased for $50 each.
We hope to include you among our World Class Scholars Mystery Get Away event sponsors and will be contacting you in a few days to discuss our efforts. Thank you in advance for your continuing generosity, as we all work together to support our young people reach for their dreams of going to college. Call 538-4243 or email jjorgens@ghc.edu for more information.
Sincerely,
Jan Jorgenson Shelli Hopsecger
