Real Experiences and Human Impact of Diversity
Is the Harbor a Multicultural Community?
Who is “Diversity”?
What: Open Space Forum
When: Wednesday January 19, 2011, 2:00 – 4:00PM
Where: Grays Harbor College Campus, Room # 2201
Who: Everyone who is concerned, angry, hurt, frightened, interested, curious, hopeful, protective or confused.
Donna Hallock, the executive director of the Mediation and Settlement Center (MSC), will facilitate a public conversation about the real life impact (physical, psychological and emotional) of living in diversity.
The session will begin with a 15 minute DVD presentation introducing the topic of “Micro-Aggression”. After a statement outlining the session’s basic process and rules of conduct, Donna will lead an open-space, discussion.
All attendees may speak for 1-3 minutes to the audience without interruption. Students may express themselves freely and honestly. All stories are welcome within the context of no name-calling, inflammatory language or disruptive behavior.
The goal of this session is to create a space to articulate, hear and acknowledge many points of view and life experiences. Students do not have to agree with one other. Mediation is a process of conflict resolution that is all about finding common ground even when people disagree or hold a different point of view.
Please join the EDRC and MSC for this unique opportunity to hear a different story that may parallel one you know; and hopefully, be surprised by the outcome.
