Safe Space Training
|
| Description: |
Every Year, the LGBTQ Advocacy Team, a sub group of the Diversity Committee, provides training for staff, faculty, students, and administrators who are interested in creating a safe environment for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgendered, and Questioning students on the Grays Harbor College campus. Harassment and bullying still exist in our surrounding community and on campus, and it can mean a great deal to students when they know that faculty and staff are accepting of their sexual orientation. One way to show acceptance is to attend a Safe Space training and receive a Safe Space emblem that can be displayed in one’s office or work area. After completing the training that focuses on basic LGBTQ concepts and theories, strategies on how to create an inclusive environment for LGBTQ individuals, and developing skills to confront homophobia, heterosexism, biphobia and transphobia, each participant will be offered a Safe Space emblem that represents a safe environment that is supportive and affirming of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning persons.
This quarter’s Safe Space training will be:
Tuesday October 30th 2:30 – 5:00PM
Please RSVP to Brian Shook before Friday October 26th if you would like to attend.
