Optometry

Optometrists examine people’s eyes for vision problems, disease, and abnormal conditions and prescribe lenses and treatments.  They must graduate from an accredited professional school and must be licensed by the state in which they wish to practice.  GHC offers the first two years of required courses for admission to the Doctor of Optometry program at Pacific University.

Admission to the accredited professional program is highly competitive and requires course work in biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, and the humanities and social sciences.

You can complete these courses and earn an Associate of Science degree at GHC, before transferring to a four-year college or university to complete additional requirements for admission to the professional program. Students should make contact with the professional program during their time at GHC, because admission requirements vary and often change. An academic advisor will help each student select GHC courses that will meet GHC degree requirements and the admission requirements of the professional program.
