Career Pathways, Gaming, & Esports

Event Date:
Tuesday, February 9, 2021 2:00 pm

A discussion for high school faculty, staff, and education professionals. Join GHC's Marcy & Ralph as we talk about the multiple career pathways in gaming and esports - it's a lot more than you think. And esports can benefit your students and classroom right now. Find out what's QUICKLY changing in higher ed.

Grays Harbor College has been running an esports program since fall, but we’ve been planning it for a year prior to starting. Esports is competitive video game playing, and it’s an industry that’s experiencing huge growth. It’s also a lot more than just playing games – our students are working on data analysis, leadership & team building, graphic image design and video editing, public speaking through broadcasting our games (with hosts and commentary), and that’s just off the top of my head. There’s also quite a bit of online collaboration using Google Docs & Sheets, Zoom, setting up and managing meetings (for our coaching sessions) – all skills that the jobs of tomorrow are going to require.

The best part? Our students are more engaged and involved in their courses, because they feel that sense of identity and belonging, leading to higher engagement and satisfaction, happier students, better attendance, and higher grades.
