Course Description: 
This course provides an opportunity to study and discuss issues and events having a current impact in the human services field. The course will present on specific subjects with the intent of linking students with the scholars and scholarship involved in understanding and explaining current issues, events, and crisis in the human services field, including current medication and nutritional treatment for mental health issues. 5 lecture hours. Vocational program course. May be used as a general elective in the AA degree.
Course Prerequisites: 
Prerequiste: HS 102 or instructor permission.
Course Outcomes: 
  • Students will understand how psychotropic medications and nutritional education are used to treat symptoms of mental illness. (DL (4), L (3), CT (3), SPR (4), IU(4))
  • Students will be able to use current terminology appropriately when meeting with peers, participants and community members with emphasis on current issues in the field of human services. (DL (4), L (3), CT (4), SPR (4), IU (3))
