Job Description

The Student Support Center Work Study students serve as test proctors and back-up department receptionists along with the other duties listed below. The successful candidates must have excellent computer skills and not be planning to take math courses online at GHC. They must also be professional and discreet and must create a warm and welcoming environment for students visiting the office. This position is for approximately 15 hours per week and includes work during academic breaks.

Test Proctor Responsibilities

Assist the Testing Specialist with the testing program. Proctor placement tests, college exams, GED tests and other tests according to exacting instructions. Explain test requirements to students. Observe testers via a video monitor. Follow all instructions for starting, timing and completing test sessions. Maintain confidentiality.

Clerical Assistant Responsibilities

  • Serve as back-up receptionist, greeting students and other guests to the Center.  Direct them to the appropriate place for help. Create a warm and welcoming environment.
  • Answer phones promptly and courteously and direct calls to appropriate staff members.
  • Make appointments for counselors and other Student Support Center staff members.
  • Know confidentiality protocol and maintain confidentiality scrupulously.
  • Type any handouts or other materials as assigned.
  • File folders and other documents as requested.
  • Make photocopies and send faxes as assigned.
  • Collect and distribute mail between the Center and the mail room.
  • Stock the Center closet with supplies from the main supply closet.
  • Assist with special projects.
  • Restock spindle and pamphlet holder.
  • Provide secondary support to the Program Coordinator.

Qualifications

  • Basic computer skills including Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Must exercise maturity in dealing with peers and confidential information
  • Able to work independently and follow directions
