Amber Hatley, Interim Associate Director of Advising and Guided Pathways

Amber Hatley“Having the encouragement and support here at GHC is what both made me successful as a student, and what made me want to come back and work here.”

What do you do at the college? How does your job help students meet their goals?

I have the privilege of advising and supporting students with Entry Registration, Veteran Advising, Re-Entry Advising, and General Advising needs. I also work to support the continuous implementation of Guided Pathways, which is an equitable system to ensure student success.

What makes you passionate about what you do for students?

It was during my time as a student at Grays Harbor College that I realized my love for higher education and what kind of opportunities and growth getting my degree would bring. Being able to play a role in allowing other students to believe in themselves and succeed is the most rewarding part of my job.

What’s your favorite part about working at GHC?

It is a pleasure to get to help students achieve their goals. Grays Harbor College is such an integral part of our community and serving our students has been my pleasure.

What advice do you have for students? What do you wish students knew about?

The best advice that I could give to our students is to familiarize themselves with everything the college has to offer. The college experience can be maximized through getting involved in campus life and getting the help you need to succeed.

Are you a GHC alum? If so, can you share something awesome about your experience as a student? What about your experience as a student made you want to get a job here?

I came back a little later in life to GHC with plans to better myself and situation with an associate degree, but I received the support and encouragement that I needed (and everyone should be given) and gained the confidence to continue on. After completing my AA here, I went on to earn a master’s degree in education and a master’s degree in psychology. Having the encouragement and support here at GHC is what both made me successful, and what made me want to come back and work here.

What do you do when you’re not working at GHC?

I enjoy spending time with my family and time outdoors.

If a student needs help with something in your area, how can they get in touch with you and your colleagues?

The Student Support Center can be reached at 360-538-4099 or studentsupport@ghc.edu. You can also visit the Welcome Center in 2314 in the Manspeaker Building.
