Job Description
The Work-Study Bookstore Assistant supports the daily operations of the college bookstore by providing excellent customer service to students, faculty, and staff. This position offers students the opportunity to develop valuable retail, organizational, and communication skills in a professional campus setting.
Typical Duties
- Greet and assist customers in locating and purchasing textbooks, merchandise, and supplies.
- Operate the cash register/credit card machine and process transactions accurately.
- Balance and close register/till, complete bank deposit.
- Restock shelves, organize displays, and maintain a clean, welcoming store environment.
- Assist with receiving, unpacking, verifying and labeling new inventory both on the sales floor and in the point-of-sale system.
- Assist with textbook buyback or rental returns during peak times.
- Answer phone calls and respond to basic customer inquiries.
- Pack boxes for shipment
- Support the bookstore manager with special projects, seasonal promotions, and general office tasks.
Employee Qualifications
- Must be currently enrolled at Grays Harbor College and eligible for the Work-Study Program.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Reliable, punctual, and self-motivated.
- Able to work independently and follow directions
- Extreme attention to detail and a positive attitude.
- Basic computer skills and familiarity with point-of-sale systems (training provided).
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. and stand for extended periods during shifts.
Preferred Qualifications
- Customer service or retail experience.
- Cash handling experience.
Eligibility Criteria
- Enrolled in 6 Credits or More
- Must be Meeting Standard Academic Progress (SAP)
- Federal/State Financial Aid processed and awarded in ctcLink
- Have unmet need - Federal Cost of Attendance - $2500 maximum per quarter.
