Foraging with Friends in Grays Harbor County

We hope you join us for a fun and fungal evening. We’ll start with a meet and greet introduction to Coastal Shores and Spores Mycological Society and some club news. Later you will have an opportunity to mingle with foray leaders, Saul and Abra, while sampling some of the local wild mushrooms in season right now. Stevi Brown will bring her microscopes for some hands-on learning too.

The Featured Guest is Jordan Amacher: Quinault tribal member, traditional plant medicine maker and creator of Auntie in the Woods. She will showcase how to create alcohol-free glycerites using Turkey Tail mushrooms and Devil’s Club.

Jordan Amacher has spent the last three and a half years learning through cultural teachings, mentors, hands-on experience, and building her own relationship with the land and the medicines it provides. She currently works at a tribal treatment center, where she teaches traditional plant medicine and incorporates cultural knowledge, hands-on medicine making, and social-emotional wellness into the healing process.

Her journey in sobriety has played a huge role in how she makes her medicines. She chooses vegetable glycerin over alcohol because it allows her to honor her recovery while continuing to create and share the plant medicines she loves.

Auntie in the Woods grew from her passion for wild harvesting, creating traditional plant medicines, and sharing that knowledge with others. She loves encouraging people to get curious, get their hands dirty, and build their own connections with the natural world.

She is excited to share how she creates alcohol-free glycerites using Turkey Tail mushroom and Devil’s Club, along with some traditional knowledge, practical techniques, and a little bit of her own journey along the way!

Stevi Brown is an environmental scientist, illustrator, and field researcher from Grays Harbor County, Washington. She holds degrees and certificates in Mycology and Geographic Information Systems, with academic work centered on forest ecosystems of the Pacific Northwest. Most of her experience comes from time spent in the field—collecting data, mapping habitats, and studying local fungal diversity.
