Where are you from?
I am from Port Angeles, WA but moved to Grays Harbor in 2002.
What is your major, and what led you to choose it?
I am getting my AAS in Human Services Chemical Dependency Disorder. I chose this field because I am in recovery myself and wanted to give the help to the community that helped me when I was getting into recovery.
What has been your favorite class so far, and why?
My favorite class so far has to be the Human Services Non-Profit class. It taught me so much about how to start a nonprofit and that is my passion to eventually start a nonprofit.
What hobbies, interests, or personal pastimes are you involved in?
In my free time, I enjoy playing video games, watching my favorite TV shows, and just hanging out with my kitties at home.
What’s something people are often surprised to learn about you?
I think it is surprising to people when I tell them I am a recovering drug addict. For those that don’t know me are often surprised that I used to be homeless and did drugs for many years.
What are your future educational and/or career goals?
I plan on going for my Bachelor’s Degree at some point but for now I just want to get into the field of Substance Use so I can work on helping addicts in my community.
What advice would you give to future students?
It may seem hard at first but if you keep trying and you put forth the effort it will eventually pay off. Ask for help, find friends that share the same goals as you, and get involved with activities on campus. Best to jump right in head first and you will learn so much.
Is there anyone you would like to recognize for supporting your educational journey?
I would like to recognize my family that gave me the encouragement to get my degree and get a career after my long time with addiction. I also want to thank my recovery family for the knowledge and guidance to get my degree in Substance Use.
What is your favorite movie, artist, or type of music?
My favorite type of music is Country music; there are so many right now but if I had to choose one at the moment my favorite country music artist is Luke Combs. My favorite shows are the Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago PD.
What is your favorite season, and why?
I love the feeling of fall and the look of fall, however my favorite time of year would have to be summer. I love the smell of the crisp air and the look of the fall season. I love summer because it encourages me to get out and get on the water and enjoy my favorite water sports.
Is there a historical figure who inspires you? If so, who and why?
I guess Bill Gates is someone I have always looked up to. I feel his contribution to the technology sector is amazing.
What extracurricular activities are you involved in?
I am involved with clubs, Narcotics Anonymous, community events, and campus related events.
