Where are you from?
I was born and raised in Aberdeen. I lived in Everett for a season. Lived out at the beach for a handful of years, and now I’m a ‘city’ girl once again.
What is your major, and what led you to choose it?
I’m attaining my Associates in Business Technology. It felt like the most fitting degree to work toward due to life circumstances. Seems to be a good fit still.
What has been your favorite class so far, and why?
Hands-down, my favorite class has been Sociology with Chris Portman. He is an excellent teacher, and the subject matter is quite intriguing. Aside from that aspect though, though I may not cross every T and dot every I, I absolutely love the challenge of producing ‘art’ in the form of creative writing. I love expressing myself in this manner. His class had 10 papers due, and I was absolutely ‘tickled’ when I found out we had that many writing assignments.
What hobbies, interests, or personal pastimes are you involved in?
Since I have recently joined the marketing team, I have been given the option to try my hand at photography and am really excited to grow in this area! I have also recently taken up bowling. I’m a gym rat, but if I have an option to hike or play frisbee, then I’d much rather be outside. Self-taught in mandolin, acoustic guitar, watercolors, and the ability to sew quilts, aprons, and small bags (YouTube Tutorials get all the credit!). I have also had a blast learning Salsa dancing. Lastly, creative writing assignments while attending Toastmasters. I love the painful challenge of public speaking, and Toastmasters has helped me gain confidence and ability in this realm. (Also, a shout-out to Andrew Gaines for his public speaking class!)
What’s something people are often surprised to learn about you?
There are a few things no doubt…but I’ll mention my tattoo. It’s on the top of my left foot. (Does anyone know of a good source for tattoo removal?)
What are your future educational and/or career goals?
I’m a creative soul and I plan on strengthening my marketing skillset. I hope to be able to give my time fully to the marketing department here at GHC, upon graduation. I would love to remain on the harbor and give back to the community that has so richly supported me in my journey as a student. This is one way I could serve both the college and the community that I love. However, I feel there is a hand much larger than mine guiding my life, so we’ll see. To be continued…
What advice would you give to future students?
I would like to encourage present and future students to reach out if they find they are struggling. You can come to Student Life, and we’ll direct you to the right people to talk to. You ABSOLUTELY have a great team here at GHC that wants to see you achieve your goals and be successful. Each individual student IS important to us!
Is there anyone you would like to recognize for supporting your educational journey?
So many…where to begin? I can’t say enough for Jonni Dawson, she has been life changing! She has made Student Life bloooom and has supported me in more ways than one! Jenny Crawford, Michelle ‘Cowgirl’ Roos, Holly Duffy, Scott Blankenship, Carli Schiffner, Ja’Shonae Cooks, Stephani Thornton, Nina Vilischar, ALL the awesome folks in Financial Aid, Phil Robinson, Angel Galeana, Marco Cerqueira, Holly Bringman, Paula Franke, the ASG Officers. Thank-you EVERYONE who has cheered me on, encouraged me, and helped me keep growing one way or another here at GHC!
What is your favorite movie, artist, or type of music?
I don’t really watch a lot, if I watch anything it’s gonna be a documentary of some sort. I love history and am intrigued by WW1 and WW2. That’s my nerdy side. If I watch fluff, don’t laugh, but my favorite movie is You’ve got Mail…its warm and cozy and sweet. Meg and Tom were such a great team!
I can’t pick a favorite artist, but one of my favorite paintings is The Kiss by Gustav Klimt. And if you think of it, life is fulllll of art everywhere you look, our eyes feast daily!
Favorite music: I love a wide genre of music, but if I HAD to pick, it would be classical. It touches the depths of the heart and mind like no other music can.
What is your favorite season, and why?
Fall, and I think it’s a good time to listen to Vivaldi’s Four Seasons while you drive down a leaf strewn highway. Fall feels like a new beginning. It’s fresh and crisp. It’s a season of eye-candy; with gorgeous depths of color on display. It’s a time for fires on the hearth, and the lovely scent of pines as you meander down a forest path.
Is there a historical figure who inspires you? If so, who and why?
I’m always inspired by the men and women who help save the lives of persecuted people. They are men and women of compassion who value human life.
