Digital Equity and Accessible Technology Assistant

Summary Job Description

Supporting college faculty and staff in creating accessible, ADA-compliant files in order to support students with disabilities (e.g., captioning videos, teaching staff how to caption videos)

Typical Duties

Assist the E-Learning Coordinator with routine tasks, which most commonly include:

  • Meet individually with faculty and staff to answer questions and provide support with using technology to create accessible files
  • Caption instructional videos
  • Review student-facing publications for accuracy
  • Assist students and staff with accessing and using campus technology
  • Review, revise, and create technology training resources (e.g., documents, webpages, videos, flyers)
  • Assist/present at workshops for students and staff
  • Collect student feedback on ways to improve online/hybrid learning at GHC
  • Assist with basic administrative tasks (e.g., preparing college-wide announcements)
  • Know confidentiality protocols and maintain confidentiality completely
  • Special projects and other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • The student in this position will need to be prepared to learn many new technology skills and accessibility/disability practices as well as skills in serving a higher education campus. Training is provided.
  • General understanding of computer software and hardware -Working knowledge of Canvas, Email, the Internet, and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Strong ability for giving instructions in both written and verbal communication
  • Willingness to assist students and staff with computer issues.
  • Applicant should be professional, reliable and punctual with good customer service/communication skills, and a helpful attitude.
  • Ability to work independently.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Enrolled in 6 credits or more
  • Must be meeting Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress (FA SAP)
  • Must have their eligibility determined for federal/state financial aid and be awarded in ctcLink
  • Have unmet need in their financial aid cost of attendance – $2500 maximum per quarter (generally for students attending full time)
