Summary Job Description

The Marketing Work Study position offers students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in marketing and public relations while engaging in campus life. Primary responsibilities include creating content for Grays Harbor College’s social media platforms (Facebook and Instagram), appearing on camera to promote the College, and highlighting events through interviews with students, faculty, and staff.

The Marketing Work Study role also includes creative work such as storyboarding, writing, video production, photography, and graphic design. The position reports to the Director of Marketing & College Relations and collaborates closely with the IE&CR team.

Typical Duties

  • Capture photo and video content of campus events, student resources, and campus spaces
  • Attend and document GHC events (e.g., athletics, Student Life activities, field trips)
  • Collaborate with Student Life to stay informed on campus events, programs, and student initiatives (including attending meetings as needed)
  • Appear on camera and record voiceovers to promote GHC, events, and resources; conduct on-camera interviews with students and employees
  • Recruit and coordinate student participation for social media content
  • Monitor and research current social media trends to inform content creation
  • Brainstorm, create, and produce Instagram Reels and other social media content
  • Support professional photo and video shoots as needed
  • Proofread and provide feedback on marketing materials, including social media content
  • Write engaging captions for GHC social media posts
  • Assist with development of flyers, press releases, and other marketing and college relations materials
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Availability to attend on-campus activities and GHC events (usually taking place between 9 AM through 4 PM, and occasionally during nights and weekends)
  • Interest in connecting with fellow students both on and off camera
  • Experience using a smartphone for photo and video capture
  • Familiarity with social media platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube
  • Creative mindset with openness to constructive feedback
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Interest in social media, photography, and current digital trends
  • Ability to represent the IECR department professionally and work effectively with diverse individuals in an office setting
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to GHC’s social media policies

Eligibility Criteria

  • Enrolled in 6 Credits or More
  • Must be Meeting Standard Academic Progress (SAP)
  • Federal/State Financial Aid processed and awarded in ctcLink
  • Have room in unmet Federal/Cost of Attendance Need money – $2500 Maximum per quarter
