Natural Resource Technician

Summary Job Description

Primary responsibility is working at the GHC school forest at Satsop Business Park with the manager (forestry instructor at GHC) to implement the forest management plan.

Typical Duties

  • Timber cruising and other plant inventory
  • Property boundary maintenance
  • Timber harvest unit layout and administration
  • Tree marking for removal
  • Road maintenance
  • Pre-commercial thinning
  • Invasive weed identification and control
  • Understory tree release
  • Pruning
  • Tree planting and reforestation work
  • Tool maintenance
  • Other duties as assigned

Workday and times to be determined based on students & instructors quarterly schedule.

  • Good math skills
  • Willingness to learn and work with public
  • Ability to take initiative
  • Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather
  • Ability to work with power tools

Preference is given to natural resource students working on their cooperative work experience requirements. GHC van driving class will be required when offered.


Eligibility Criteria

  • Enrolled in 6 credits or more
  • Must be meeting Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress (FA SAP)
  • Must have their eligibility determined for federal/state financial aid and be awarded in ctcLink
  • Have unmet need in their financial aid cost of attendance – $2500 maximum per quarter (generally for students attending full time)
