Course Description: 
Presents the principles of effective oral communication including organization, content development, delivery, and stress management. A functional approach to effective speaking with practical application in informative, impromptu, and persuasive speeches. 5 lecture hours. Satisfies humanities distribution area F requirement or specified elective for the AA degree.
Course Prerequisites: 
Prerequisite: ENGL 095 or placement in ENGL& 101, or instructor permission.
Course Outcomes: 

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Effectively deliver at least three kinds of speeches
  • Respond critically to peer speeches using the principals of constructive feedback
  • Craft and organize clear, concise, and compelling speeches of different lengths
  • Assume an informed stance of a topic based on understanding personal values, human diversity, multicultural awareness, and social responsibility
