GHC's 89th Graduation

Grays Harbor College graduates the largest class in its history at the Commencement ceremony, set for 7 p.m. Friday evening at Stewart Field. A total of 433 diplomas will be awarded, with nearly 200 graduates participating in the official event, which is the College’s 89th graduation.

The GHC Class of 2019 includes graduates in two of the College’s new Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) programs. The 21 students who started BAS-Teacher Education program two years ago are all graduating this week. Seven of those already have local teaching jobs, several others are awaiting results after interviewing in area school districts. Receiving BAS-Forest Resources Management Degrees will be five students, with 9 completing the program next year.

Also graduating will be the first 12 students completing the Associate of Applied Science in Medical Assistant, a concurrent enrollment program between GHC and the Twin Harbors Skills Center. As a result, this first class includes younger high school students plus those who are returning after being away from the classroom for many years.

Another first this year are the 18 Associate in Applied Science degrees in Business Management that the College is awarding to qualifying graduates at Stafford Creek Corrections facility.

“Each of our new degree offerings are offered directly in response to demands from area employers, needing to hire employees with these skills,” explains GHC President James Minkler.

“We are so proud to honor all of our graduates in this record-breaking Class of 2019,” he added.

Aberdeen Police Chief Steve Shumate, who graduated from GHC in 1990, will be the Commencement speaker. This year, there are 13 leading the class with grade-point averages ranging from 4.0 to 3.98. They include Kamryn Adkins, Kaden Coty, Adrian Greenway, Joshua Latimer, Cain McCullough, Emma Nitahara, Nolan Palmer, Dakota Ross, Raven Stoney, Sierra Templeton, Zoe Templeton, Michael Urbaniak and Lucius Veiga.
