Following a decision made to hold this year’s graduation in person at Olympic Stadium on June 22nd at 7:00 pm, Grays Harbor College President Dr. Ed Brewster announced that there will be a full array of in-person classes and activities at GHC in the fall.

In a letter to employees Dr. Brewster said, “We look forward to having more students and employees back on campus in the fall, so that we can enjoy a vibrant campus life with more in-person instruction, activities and interactions.”

Mask wearing is currently optional on GHC’s campuses and students will be encouraged but not required to vaccinate in order to attend in-person classes and activities starting summer quarter.

“Several things have changed since last summer when we made the decision to require vaccinations for students, including changing guidance and requirements at the local, state and national level,” said Dr. Brewster, noting there will be some exceptions to the change in GHC’s vaccination policy, such as for students who participate in community placements and clinicals. Other protocols such as cleaning and social distancing will remain in place.

According to Vice President of Student Services Cal Erwin-Svoboda, the sense of vibrancy highlighted in Dr. Brewster’s letter can already be felt on campus. “It is great to have more activities and classes happening on campus again!” Erwin-Svoboda said enthusiastically. “I have enjoyed engaging with our community at the Associated Students of GHC social events, at our athletic sporting events, at Bishop Center performances, and most recently at TRIO’s Community Week, which hosted more than 40 community organizations on campus.”

In addition to more in-person events and activities, GHC is also increasing the availability of support services on campus. The Harbor Landing Food Pantry, which serves students and the community, has increased its hours of operation from one to three days per week. GHC’s Writing Center and the Student Help Desk have also increased in-person availability.

Priority registration for Veterans enrolling in summer and fall classes begins May 5th. Registration is open to returning GHC students on May 9th and to new students on May 12th.
