Angela Anderson - Winter 2023

Angela Anderson - Winter 2023

My name is Angela Anderson (she/her). I started my college journey at Grays Harbor College last winter quarter. I enrolled at Grays Harbor College because the college is close to home. I found an EOC flyer at my previous job and began to think about what my future could look like. I always wanted to attend college, but never had the support. I decided to take a leap of faith and contacted EOC. Ashley Bowie Gallegos, the Director of TRIO EOC made my enrollment journey smooth and easy. After she provided me with the necessary assistance, she referred me to TRIO SSS. It has been a great experience so far.

I am currently pursuing a degree in Human Services A.A.S. at Grays Harbor College and I would like to transfer to a 4-year university to complete a bachelor’s degree. I chose this program because Kent Smaciarz, Coordinator of Riverview Educational Center inspired me to pursue this degree after I had a conversation with him. After he provided me with some insight, I knew that this specific degree was most ideal for me.

Once I complete my degree at GHC, I would like to transfer to a 4-year university to pursue a bachelor’s degree. I would like to work for DSHS or become a school counselor. I do know that I want to work with at-risk children. I would like to remain in Pacific or Grays Harbor County. The advice that I would give future GHC students is that it is never too late to go to college, follow your dreams, have a plan and just do it!

I would like to thank the following people: Shelly Hoffman, TRIO Specialist, Ashley Bowie Gallegos, Director of TRIO EOC, Kent Smaciarz, Coordinator of REC, and Paul Turner, Advisor at REC. These individuals have helped me along the way and have provided me with constant support.
