GHC Receives $2.68 Million in Grant Funds to Continue TRiO Student Support Services

Grays Harbor College (GHC) is excited to announce that its TRiO programs have received funding for the next five years through the United States Department of Education. The grants are for two Student Support Services (SSS) programs, a regular SSS program and a science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) program. The TRiO programs received news of the of the funding from Senator Patty Murray’s office on August 10th. The total funding for the 2020-2021 academic year is $536,000, and the total award for the five-year period of the grant will be well over $2.68 million for the two TRiO Student Support Service programs.

According to Dr. Jennifer Alt, GHC Vice President of Student Services, “GHC TRiO has been serving students since 2005 and will continue that service for the next five years as a result of the grant renewals. The grants allow us to serve 280 students a year who are first-generation, income-eligible, and/or are living with a disability as they pursue their academic goals of persisting, graduating, and transferring to a four-year college or university.”

Program services include: instruction in basic study skills; tutorial services; academic, financial, or personal counseling; assistance in securing admission and financial aid for enrollment in four-year institutions; assistance in securing admission and financial aid for enrollment in graduate and professional programs; guidance on career options; and mentoring.
