Leading up to Thanksgiving break, Grays Harbor College distributed more than 180 holiday food baskets to students, staff, and community members.

More than 50 GHC staff members volunteered to assemble and distribute the baskets on November 16 on the main campus.  Volunteers also delivered baskets to GHC’s education centers in Ilwaco and Raymond.

This project was supported by GHC’s President’s Office, Department of Student Life, Campus Operations, and the Grays Harbor College Foundation. Specifically, the project could not have been completed without the dedicated efforts of Campus Operations Coordinator Chris Macht, Executive Assistant to the Vice President of Student Services Jonni Dawson, and Executive Assistant to the President and Special Projects Shannon Bell.

The baskets were funded by the Free and Reduced Lunch Grant and the Grays Harbor College Foundation in support of the Harbor Landing Food Pantry, a food pantry on GHC’s campus that is available to both students and community members. All of the rolls for the baskets were donated by Powell Market Garden, a local farm to table bakery that sets up shop on GHC’s campus twice a week.

About the event, Jonni Dawson had this to say, "To me, Thanksgiving is about being thankful for the year that has passed, hopeful for the year ahead, and feeling blessed to share in the goodness we all offer to one another whether it be a smile, sharing a coffee, or just holding a door, each person can share a place in another person’s heart. That connection is what I hope we accomplish with this year’s basket distributions."
