GHC’s Carpentry Technology program has Tool Kits available for new and prospective students. The Carpentry program debuted the New Student Tool Kits in fall quarter and the kits are available again this winter. The goal of these kits is to eliminate financial barriers for new and prospective students. As the program’s instructor, Adam Pratt likes to say, “A lack of money should not keep you from building your future.”

The tool kits include everything needed for the first quarter of the program, including the text book. Thanks to these kits, the only items that new students will need to purchase to get started will be work boots and possibly pants. The kits are designed to deter students from using their own resources to buy unnecessary or low-quality items. Students will return the kits at the end of the first quarter and will be responsible for missing or damaged items.

Most students are able to access tool funding by their second quarter through financial aid, grants, and scholarships. These kits will provide time for funding applications to be processed. That time will allow students to learn exactly what they need before purchasing tools with their own money or awarded funds.

The construction industry is experiencing an urgent need for new employees. GHC’s Carpentry Technology program provides an education that will help more people access high-demand, high-wage jobs in the field.
