Position Summary
The Culinary Lab Teaching Assistant supports culinary instructors by helping maintain an organized, safe, and efficient learning environment. This position is ideal for individuals passionate about culinary arts and education, eager to gain hands-on experience in a professional kitchen setting, and committed to student success.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist instructors in preparing and breaking down lab sessions, including setting up ingredients, equipment, tools, and recipe stations.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of work areas following health department regulations and college standards.
- Support students during lab activities by reinforcing safe kitchen practices, answering procedural questions, and demonstrating basic culinary techniques when appropriate.
- Monitor inventory of ingredients, tools, and supplies; assist in restocking and organizing the pantry, refrigerators, and dry storage.
- Ensure proper storage and labeling of all food items.
- Help with dishwashing, waste management, and overall kitchen maintenance.
- Model professional behavior and encourage a respectful and collaborative learning environment.
- Report equipment malfunctions, safety hazards, or student concerns to faculty.
- Perform other duties as assigned by instructors or the program coordinator.
Qualifications
Required
- Basic knowledge of kitchen safety, sanitation practices, and culinary terminology.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to follow directions and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Physical ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 40 lbs.
Preferred
- Enrollment in or completion of a culinary arts or hospitality program
- ServSafe or food handler certification
- Previous experience in a commercial kitchen or food service environment

- Enrolled in 6 Credits or More
- Must be Meeting Standard Academic Progress (SAP)
- Federal/State Financial Aid processed and awarded in ctcLink
- Have room in unmet Federal/Cost of Attendance Need money - $2500 Maximum per quarter
