Carpentry Work Study

Typical Duties

  • Carpentry program area cleanup - debris removal, sweeping, etc.
  • Performing Security checks.
  • Moving, organizing, and labeling materials, tools, equipment, furniture, etc.
  • Performing Inventory checks.
  • Making photocopies.
  • Organizing, sorting, and filing paperwork.
  • Light maintenance of tools and equipment.
  • Assembly and installation of simple mechanical devices or equipment.
  • Painting preparation and painting.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

Employee Qualifications

  • Positive attitude.
  • Maintain a regular schedule.
  • Communicate proactively.
  • The ability to follow written and verbal directions.
  • The ability to work independently and with others.
  • The ability to lift 50 pounds safely.
  • The desire to perform physical labor (manual labor), including shoveling.
  • Experience with and the ability to safely operate basic power tools.
  • Demonstrated competence of English Standard Measurements.
  • The ability to work safely in adverse conditions, including rain, cold, mud, high noise environments, and exposure to airborne irritants (dust).

Terms of Employment

Carpentry Work Study hours are by arrangement with the Carpentry Instructor.

Hours will be determined by the student's funding source. 

Continued employment is contingent on enrollment and academic status.

Expectations

 

Safety is a top priority of the GHC Carpentry Program.  Students hired for work study positions must follow safety instructions, both written and verbal.  Infractions may result in immediate termination.

Students hired for work study positions must meet Attendance and Punctuality expectations.  Failure to do so may result in termination. 

 

Students Hired for Work Study positions will:

Prioritize education and maintain a minimum of a “C” average in all classes;

Read and comply with the Carpentry Program Manual,

Complete and sign the “Statement of Responsibility”;

Maintain a record of hours worked (dates, start times and end times) and tasks (time per task) and enter hours in the time keeping system each pay period;

Maintain a regular work schedule as established by the instructor;

Work independently after receiving instruction and demonstrate initiative;

Demonstrate a tolerance for diversity;

Demonstrate positive, productive and healthy work habits;

Be prepared for and participate in physical labor (manual labor);

Have PPE and carry a notepad.
